This was an event organized by IEEE RGIT in collaboration with ABIT. It was a highly informative and interactive workshop which saw a turnout of over 120 students from all the streams with the lab being completely occupied.

The workshop began with an introduction to Photoshop, and how Photoshop is different from the rest and superior of all. It was followed by the introduction of the various tools present in it along with demonstration.  All the tools for basic photo correction, Retouching and repairing; Layer Basics- creation of layers, unlocking of layers, working with layers in a picture, were taught. In this segment the students were allowed to try what was taught, by way of giving suitable instructions, so that they gained hands on experience of using the software. The workshop was conducted in two separate sessions to accommodate all the participants. The first session was held at 10:30 am and the second was held at 1:30pm, each of which lasted for 2 hours.

 The workshop ended on a high note and was a huge success due to the efforts put in by the event heads and all the volunteers who helped and co-operated during the event.

FL Studio (formerly known as Fruity Loops) is a digital audio workstation developed by the Belgian company Image-Line. FL Studio features a graphical user interface based on a pattern-based music sequencer.

The program is available in four different editions for Microsoft Windows, including FL Studio Express, Fruity Edition, Producer Edition, and the Signature Bundle. Image-Line offers lifetime free updates to the program, meaning customers receive all future updates of the software for free. Image-Line also develops FL Studio Mobile for iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

It is a complete software music production environment or DAW( Digital Audio Workshop). Everything you need is in one package to compose, arrange,record, edit, mix and master professional quality music. It is the fastest way from your brain to your speakers.

FL Studio can also be used as a VST instrument in other audio workstation programs and also functions as a ReWire client. Image-Line also offers other VST instruments and audio applications. FL Studio is used by electronic musicians and DJs such as Afrojack, Avicii, Martin Garrix and 9th Wonder.

We are soon planning to organise an event to teach F L Studio to the students of our college to enhance their knowledge about composing music. Details will be disclosed soon.

A platform game (or platformer) is a video game which involves guiding an avatar to jump between suspended platforms, over obstacles, or both to advance the game. These challenges are known as jumping puzzles or freerunning. The player controls the jumps to avoid letting the avatar fall from platforms or miss necessary jumps. The most common unifying element of games of this genre is the jump button. Jumping, in this genre, may include swinging from extendable arm or bouncing from springboards or trampolines. These mechanics, even in the context of other genres, are commonly called platforming, a verbification of platform. Games where jumping is automated completely, fall outside of the genre.

While commonly associated with console gaming, there have been many important platform games released to video arcades, as well as for handheld game consoles and home computers. North America, Europe and Japan have played major parts in the genre's evolution. Platform themes range from cartoon-like games to science fiction and fantasy epics

The event ‘To BE or not to BE with Dipen Ambalia’ organized by IEEE was a stupendous success.. The Chief Guest for the event, the author of the book “To BE or not to BE’, Dipen Ambalia was felicitated after which, he introduced himself and spoke of his qualifications, informing the crowd that he holds an engineering degree in the field of information technology from the renowned college, VJTI .He also spoke of his experiences as a student.

He gave the audience a sneak peak into his book L.O.S.E.R, accompanied with a power point presentation. The book highlighted the life of a software engineer. It contained interesting chapters like how to fool your boss, what to do during a boring meeting, and various other topics.

He then moved on to his latest book ‘To BE or not to BE’. It is a satire based on an engineer’s life revolving about various phases they undergo in their four yearlong graduation course. The book is written in a way that makes it appealing to the engineers who are, and for the students who will someday become one. For readers, who have completed the journey across the vast and deadly ocean of engineering, it serves as a beautiful reminder of the kids they once were. He then spoke about his life as an author. He familiarized the audience with the various phases undergone in order to publish a book including editing, publishing, distributing and others. He gave many tips on how to become an author and motivated the audience to pursue their passion. His talks were very inspiring and a lot of students could relate to his experiences.

Many questions were asked by the enthusiastic young crowd, which he answered joyfully. He also graciously autographed his book for the audience before departing.

The event ‘‘Power to Women by Franklin Joseph’ was held on 13th February’ 2014 in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. It was a self-defense session organized for all the female students in the college. The question of why violence against women is so prolific in India is a matter of considerable debate. The women of modern India need to be made aware of their true potentials and the fact that they are inferior to none. With this as the driving force, the event, ‘Power to women’ was organized. It was attended by over 250 female students.

The event was conducted by Mr.Franklin Joseph, who is a man of great accomplishments. He is a ‘Women Safety Empowerment & Women Self Defense Specialist’ and runs his own training center, teaching Israeli Self Defense Krav Maga in Bangalore. Mr. Franklin has assisted various civilian combat workshops and Self Defense Combat Training projects with Police, VIP Protection Units and Military Special Forces. He is also a Social Entrepreneur who designed and founded an organization which focuses on Girl Child and Women's Safety Awareness, Women Self Defense and Psychological Empowerment against Crime, Violence etc. His 'Power to Women' Safety Awareness Workshop was very well received by more than 250 enthusiasts present at the venue. Apart from the magnitude of Mr. Joseph’s knowledge, his public speaking skills which disseminated information on such  sensitive subjects like abuse and violence, were highly appreciated. He included demonstrations,  humorous quotes, realistic scenarios and interactive liveliness in his workshop to de-stress and encourage more participation from the audience.

Mr. Joseph, in essence, represented the changing face of women self-defense education.  In all, it was a very inspirational experience for all.

Entrepreneurship is not only a means of making money,  true entrepreneurs always have humanity in the core of his/her idea, they mix profit with social revolution for the benefit of mankind and for the advantage of less-privileged. Ms.‘Upasana Makati’ is one amongst them.

The event commenced with a brief introduction and felicitation of the chief guest Ms.Upasana Makati. She introduced herself as a 24 year old entrepreneur and spoke about her college days in Jai Hind, where she studied media, management etc. She shared her experiences and thoughts with one and all saying that even though she enjoyed her job at the work place, she felt something amiss as she wasn’t actively contributing to the society. She came up with India’s first English lifestyle magazine in Braille. In a bid to reach out to the visually impaired population of India, Upasana Makati decided to launch White Print, an English lifestyle magazine in Braille. She never thought of doing a ‘first’ in India, but her braille magazine is one of a kind. She refers to them as ‘visually impaired’ rather than ‘blind’. They had nothing enjoyable as a magazine or newspaper. Driven by noble thoughts, she strived to change this state. White Print is an initiative born to cater to the needs of the visually impaired community. Ms. Makati explained how people voluntarily wrote articles for the magazine, Barkha Dutt being one of the prominent names. The magazine consists of about 30 pages and now has over 300 subscribers. It is a monthly magazine covering topics such as food, politics, music and gadget reviews. She has plans to publish it in regional languages as time progresses.
